Morgan Sowden
While most my friends are artists or writers,
Morgan is an enterpreneur in best sense of that word - a creative and
inovative one. Free thinker and hard worker.
Part British and part Italian, Morgan knew
both these languages as a native and by the time we met in Prague,
he could speak
unusually well Czech. When he moved to the post-war Sarajevo to open
an internet cafe, he "naturally" picked up Serbo-Croatian.
For a while, Morgan's cafe was "the only game
in town" and among regulars were UN officials, students, mafia-types,
businessmen, tech-heads
and even a few grandmas who stopped for cakes and coffees. It was
a funny mix of people and Morgan handled it all with his natural
sense
of
humor
- a rare
ingredient in a country full of bulletholes and cemetaries. (See
Sarajevo trip pictures in the My
Travels section).
But a lot of things natural for Morgan are
struggle for all the rest of us - computers for instance. Morgan wrote
his first program when
he was 8 and didn't stop since. He's the original co-founder of
Ringo.com, a genius system for friend-networking which he built while
he lived
in San Francisco. Morgan initiates many such projects along with
his work for major clients.
In another such fun project he teamed up
with Ken
Nash to create RudeMountain.com, as a response to the cute
greeting
card
site
BlueMountain.com
- Ken's
cards say it like it is under the motto: "Tell them what your really
think about them." The contents of Rude Mountains were later merged
with Morgan's new venture jokenews.co.uk
With Morgan, the only question is always: "What's
next?" and I'm already looking forward to it, whatever it may
be.
