Off-line Web Projects

Web projects are difficult to capture. Now that I have tried to put together my portfolio, I quickly realized that the web changes indeed so dynamically, that many of my "babies" are not online anymore and each web project had it's own story.

To navigate this section:

  • Open a sample page by clicking on the projects name or image
  • Each page opens in a new browser window, once done viewing, simply close the browser window to get back here.
  • Each project presents only one sample page, which is stored within my site for archive purposes only. All links on these pages were disabled.

Web Projects - various

Web site's name:

Opinion-Columns.com

opinion columns

Current status:

Re-designed

This version since:

2005

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 500 pages

Description:

My husband's writing site featuring his extensive collection social and political commentary. New opinion columns nearly every day.

My involvement:

Graphic design, site structure, targeted search engine optimization

Notes:

A good example of the "sister site" strategy. Both Jim's sites have similar look and feel, but target different audiences. While his PragueWriter site is devoted to poetry and other writing, Opinion-Columns.com focuses only on his political and social commentary. Opinion Columns are additionally supported by Jim's blog.

Web site's name:

Jeremy Saxon

jeremy saxon

Current status:

Re-designed

This version since:

2005

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 10 pages

Description:

Jeremy Saxon is a Prague-based American songwriter and blues musician. His site showcases his music through downloadable samples, provides concert information, bio, photos etc.

My involvement:

Graphic design, photo editing, some copy writing, site structure, basic search engine optimization.

Notes:

This was a quick site built practically without Jeremy's involvement. The design developed from the main photo I used in the layout. In a subtle way it translates into the main content background. I tried to off-set the gray backdrop using orange elements. Jeremy's music, despite being categorized as "blues", is fun, so I wanted to bring in a fun positive element. I was not involved in the the current re-design.

Web site's name:

Alchemy Prague

alchemy

Current status:

unpublished

This version created:

2005

Language versions:

English

Description:

Web design for Alchemy Readings and Performance Series. See Web Design Portfolio for more on this project.

My involvement:

Copy writing, many photos, all photo editing, site structure, graphic design (logo and Flash animation by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization

Notes:

This new design was created shortly before we ended the event series. I used photos of artists who performed at Alchemy in the lab tubes. The thermometer stretches depending on the lenght of content. If we decide to re-start the series, I will complete it and publish it.

Web site's name:

Arena Hostel

My involvement:

Copy writing, site structure, web design, photo editing, targeted search engine optimization by Jim Freeman

Notes:

Arena was one of my bigger projects, a multi-lingual site with many informative and interesting pages. Arena Hostel had been since renovated, upscaled and is now run by a German hostel chain.

Web site's name:

Translationship.com

Current status:

Off line

This version created:

2003

Language versions:

English

Translations to and from over 180 languages, unique services powered by Kenax network of translators.

My involvement:

Web site's name:

Garden EARTH

ge

Current status:

unfinished / offline

This version created:

2003

Language versions:

English, Czech

Web site size:

over 30 pages total

Description:

An organic farm startup from Southern Moravia. Site included photo galleries, maps etc.

My involvement:

Site structure, web design (logo by Ken Nash), photo editing, basic search engine optimization

Notes:

I have no idea if this project ever took off, but I like the design, so here it is. It was the first time, when I utilized the technique of 3D scanning for a design. The layout is composed from a fern, birch bark and a mushroom.

Web site's name:

MishaWeb.com

mishaweb

Current status:

Unpublished / off line

This version created:

2003

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 50 pages

Description:

My own site dedicated to web design, content development and consulting services.

My involvement:

All texts, web design, basic search engine optimization.

Notes:

This site is about 70% done and I decided not to publish it. I simply never got to it and now it needs re-working. For one thing, it still has my maiden name in the letterhead. But it's a fun design, composed from a real picture of my corkboard, using Ken Nash's cartoons, my favorite quotes etc. One day, I might get to it, for now, my work will have to speak for itself.

Web site's name:

Corn Husk Dolls

dolls

Current status:

Unfinished / Offline

This version created:

2003

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

6 pages

Description:

Small online store featuring handmade Eastern European corn husk dolls.

My involvement:

Photography, texts, web design

Notes:

My friend's mother make these beautiful dolls and I tried to see if we could sell them online. Then the project run into the restrictions from the credit card companies and never took off. I only started to develop this website, but I think the animation is nice and the background, made from corn husks, is kind of cool. But it would need a lot of work.

Web site's name:

FeelBohemian.com

feel

Current status:

Re-designed

This version created:

2002

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 300 pages

Description:

An earlier design of FeelBohemian.com. See the current design and more about this project in my Web Design Portfolio.

My involvement:

All product photos, texts, graphic design, site structure, advanced search engine optimization. All in cooperation with my husband.

Notes:

There were many things I didn't like about this design, but still, it's an interesting exercise in creating a non-linear structure, grouping content into floating elements. I think that one day, I'll come across a project where this concept, better executed, will find it's perfect use.

Web site's name:

PragueWriter.com

pr

Current status:

Re-designed

This version created:

2002

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 300 pages at the time

Description:

My husband's writing site in an earlier incarnation. See the current design and more about this project in my Web Design Portfolio.

My involvement:

Graphic design, site structure, basic optimization

Notes:

This was a fun project. We used a heavily modified picture of a baroque gate to create this bi-stretch design. Because this site contains primarily texts, we allowed ourselves to go wild in the design. Eventually, the menu became limiting and the site needed re-design.

Web site's name:

Pomocne tlapky (Helping Paws)

tlapky

Current status:

Re-designed

This version created:

2001

Language versions:

Czech, smaller portion in English

Web site size:

over 50 pages at the time

Description:

First design of Helping Paws' website. See the current design and more about this project in my Web Design Portfolio.

My involvement:

All texts, many photos, all photo editing, site structure, graphic design (except logo, which was a collaboration and animation by Ken Nash), company brand and marketing strategies, basic search engine optimization

Notes:

A very straightforward layout with a Flash animation in the header.

Web site's name:

Ski Lucifer

ski

Current status:

Re-designed

This version created:

2001

Language versions:

Czech

Web site size:

over 20 pages at the time

Description:

A family-run ski resort in Northern Bohemia. See the current version and more about this project in my Web Design Portfolio.

My involvement:

All texts, many of the photos, photo editing, graphic design (logo by Ken Nash), animations, site structure, marketing advice, targeted search engine optimization.

Notes:

One of my early designs. Also one of the few with have centered layout. It would be very hard to do this type of menu once the site has more content, but small sites allow the luxury.

Web site's name:

Z bohyne lovu CS

pups

Current status:

Re-designed / renamed

This version created:

2001

Language versions:

Czech

Web site size:

over 20 pages at the time

One of my very first sites, so it's here for archiving purposes. Very simple design, but I think it worked fine. That super cute black puppy looking at you is my Barkley.
