Web Design Portfolio

This Web Design Portfolio presents only those projects, which are currently online and which I'm still overseeing or webmastering. With each web project, I indicate the extent of my involvement, the rest was either handled by the client or a collaboration. Many of my older designs or websites are now off-line, please see also the Off-line Web Projects section.

EACH SITE OPENS IN A NEW BROWSER WINDOW.
Once you are done browsing it, simply close the window to get back here.

Web site's name:

Tasky.cz

tasky.cz

URL:

www.tasky.cz

In existence since:

1999

This version since:

2007

Language versions:

Czech

Web site size:

about 20 pages

Description:

Since 1989, Tasky.cz (meaning Bags.cz) is one of the major producers of plastic bags from recyclable polyethylen and microten, specializing in custom production and advertising printing on the bags. Website showcases the production, product range, company info, prices etc.

My involvement:

Graphic design, all photography, copy writing most texts, additional text editing, site structure, full search engine optimization

Notes:

For this site, I came home equipped with a big pile of plastic bags and the "clear" message do "Do something with these." The photographing was fun and quite a bit of a challenge. But search engine optimization was the issue here, so the website is very keyword heavy. The idea of the menu being "printed on a bag" is not there just for fun, it's a smooth way to present a series of necessary long text links.

Web site's name:

Opinion-Columns.com

opinion columns

URL:

www.opinion-columns.com

In existence since:

2005

This version since:

2006

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 500 pages

Description:

My husband's writing site featuring his extensive collection social and political commentary. New opinion columns nearly every day.

My involvement:

Graphic design, site structure, basic search engine optimization, RSS feed setup

Notes:

In 2006, Jim's original Opinion Columns site and its supporting blog morphed into one blog site, as he decided to become "a serious blogger". The site is powered by Typepad.com so the challenge was to use their system to create a unique design in a dynamic environment and implement my optimization strategies within its limits.

Web site's name:

European Pharmaceutical Consultants, s.r.o.

European Pharmaceutical Consultants .s.r.o.

URL:

www.pharma-eu.com

In existence since:

2006

This version since:

2006

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

About 10 pages

Description:

European Pharmaceutical Consultants, s.r.o. is a small consulting firm specilizing in PIL (Package Information Leaflet) writing, testing and translating to all European languages, as well as other pharmaceutical regulatory consulting services.

My involvement:

Graphic design, photo selection and editing, site structure, text editing, basic search engine optimization and registration.

Notes:

I've used my favorite scanning technique to scans whatever pills I had at home at the moment. This was a spur of the moment inspiration and it produced a nice effect. The color scheme was, of course, dictated by the subject. The site needed to be sleek and professional looking, but I tried to give it some friendly touches.

Web site's name:

Obhajoba pastelky
(The Defence of the Colored Pencil)

obhajoba pastelky

URL:

www.pastelky.cz

In existence since:

2006

This version since:

2006

Language versions:

Czech

Web site size:

Over 50 pages

Description:

Artist Marie Brozova creates large scale art with common colored pencils. She decided to defend this often overlooked artistic medium in a series of public drawing events. The web site presents the resulting art, includes photo galleries and Marie's memories from the events.

My involvement:

Graphic design (Marie provided the handmade orange background), marketing advice, photo editing, site structure, partly the texts, basic search engine optimization

Notes:

Marie's amazing art is powerful by itself, but we tried to give it a colorful backdrop, which would provide the feel of seeing at least some parts in real size. The pencils, made from 3D scans of Marie's favorite Koh-i-Noor pencils, stretch to accomodate different size screens and different length of content.

Web site's name:

Ski Lucifer

Lucifer

URL:

www.skilucifer.cz

In existence since:

2001

This version since:

2006

Language versions:

Czech

Web site size:

over 50 pages

Description:

Lucifer is a family-owner ski resort in Northern Bohemia. The website inludes price lists, photo galleries, maps, tips for trips, descriptions of the area etc.

My involvement:

All texts, many of the photos, photo editing, graphic design (logo by Ken Nash), animations, site structure, marketing advice, targeted search engine optimization.

Notes:

Over the years, Lucifer had grown up and improved. The ski-lifts are faster, the ski rentals provide wide range of equipment. It was time to redesign this site and update it's look and feel. Besides the information about the ski hill's services, accomodation, pub and ski rentals, we included a wide range of general information about the area and tips for trips. This allows the site a bigger exposure in search engines and provides users with valuable info.

Web site's name:

FeelBohemian.com

URL:

www.feelbohemian.com

In existence since:

2000

This version since:

2006

English

The online store includes detailed product photos and descriptions, shopping suggestions, information about the history of Czech crystal etc. More about this fine crystal shop here.

My involvement:

All product photos, texts, graphic design, site structure, advanced search engine optimization. All in cooperation with my husband.

Notes:

This new FeelBohemian.com design focuses on integrating the interface of a third party shopping cart provider - CCNow. We used same background colors and similar elements to create more seamless user experience.

Web site's name:

My involvement:

Graphic design, site structure, targeted optimization

Notes:

This new incarnation of Jim Freeman's PragueWriter site features cleaner look and male colors and a simple structure. The rankings in search engines improved dramatically due to these changes.

Web site's name:

Labradorsky Retrivr

labradorsky retrivr

URL:

www.labradorsky-retrivr.cz

In existence since:

My involvement:

All copy writing, photo editing, site structure, graphic design, targeted search engine optimization

Notes:

Besides the new dog food ordering, structure and look, one of the best improvements was the advice section, where the breeder answers questions from dog owners. Search engines love the keyword-rich content, users love the free, but professional advice. The site was also moved to a new domain.

Web site's name:

Canisterapeuticka asociace (Canine Therapy Association)

dog therapy association

URL:

www.ctasociace.cz

The official website of the Czech Canine Therapy Association, an umbrella coalition of 17 organizations providing dog therapy for facilities in the Czech Republic.

My involvement:

Graphic design, photo editing, some text editing, some translations, currently maintained by Borudo

Notes:

Before I took over this site, it was designed by the director's 14 year old son. After all CTA is a non profit and he actually did a pretty good job for a teenager. Since many members said they rather liked it, I stuck to the original color scheme and the new logo. But I felt like we need some doggies in there and that was appreciated :-)

Web site's name:

Pomocne tlapky (Helping Paws)

helping paws

URL:

www.pomocnetlapky.cz

In existence since:

2001

This version since:

2004

Czech, smaller segment in English

Web site size:

over 200 pages total

Description:

The first Czech non-profit organization training assistance dogs for health impaired. The site inludes photoalbums, profiles of trained dogs, simple shop, extensive section on canine therapy, records of activities etc.

My involvement:

All texts, many photos, all photo editing, site structure, graphic design (except logo, which was a collaboration), company brand and marketing strategies, basic search engine optimization

Notes:

Being Helping Paws' co-founder, this site is pretty much my baby. It is one of the biggest sites of it's kind on Czech internet, but like babies, it seems to grow so fast that I can barely keep up.

I have already planned it's new development. I want to make it more user friendly, somehow simplify the navigation. Additional language versions are planned too. It will be a challenge to keep this baby from growing into a real monster.

Web site's name:

Molly Malone's

URL:

www.mollymalones.cz

In existence since:

2003

This version since:

2003

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

5 pages

Description:

Traditional Irish pub in the heart of Prague. Stylish decor, authenthic Irish menu! Site includes a menu, map, contact etc.

My involvement:

If I ever wanted to have a bar, it would look like Molly Malone's. It was one of the first bars in Prague that have a fireplace. So, making this site was a pleasure. It's a small site that does what's needed.

Notes:

Copy writing, some photos, map, graphic design (logo by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization.

Web site's name:

J.J. Murphy's

URL:

www.jjmurphys.cz

In existence since:

2003

This version since:

2003

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

6 pages

Description:

Trendy Irish Bar near the embassies in Prague. Warm atmoshpere, great food & beer. The site includes a menu, map, contact etc.

My involvement:

Copy writing, some photos, map, graphic design (logo by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization.

Notes:

I've based this design on the yellow colorwashed walls of J.J. Murphy's interior. This bar's motto is "Blending the tradition of the old with a feeling for the new." and I tried to do just that. Needless to say it was fun.

Web site's name:

Legends Sports Bar

URL:

www.legends.cz

In existence since:

2003

This version since:

2003

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

10 pages

Description:

Sports Bar in downtown Prague with state-of-the-art screens and equipment.

My involvement:

Copy writing, some photos, map, graphic design (except logo), basic search engine optimization.

Notes:

When I started working on this site, Legends just got a new logo and menus. I created a site design based on them to define a strong branding. HTML web design doesn't allow many curves and swooshes, but I tried to give it at least a little bit of grace and sportiness.

Web site's name:

Watson's School of English

URL:

www.watsonenglish.cz

In existence since:

2004

This version since:

2004

Language versions:

English, Czech

Web site size:

over 30 pages

Description:

A small private school teaching wide range of language courses with additional translation services.

My involvement:

Minimal copy editing, site structure, graphic design (logo by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization

Notes:

Most of us are affraid of learning foreign languages and most language schools, in the attempt to look very professional, end up with grim web sites. Willie Watson tries to make his teaching fun and he also wanted his site to be fun and positive. Because the Watson's delivered all the texts and translations, we were able to create a rather large site on a small budget.

Web site's name:

Alchemy Prague

URL:

www.alchemyprague.com

In existence since:

2003

This version since:

2003

Language versions:

English

Web site size:

over 100 pages

Description:

Alchemy Readings and Performance Series ran twice a month for over 2 years, featuring writers and performers from around the globe, each feature followed by an open-mic of local English language writers and musicians. The site presents photos, bios, event information etc.

My involvement:

Copy writing, many photos, all photo editing, site structure, graphic design (logo and Flash animation by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization

Notes:

Although the events have been discontinued, Alchemy's site is still online, serving as a chronicle of this venue. Alchemy is another one of "my babies". Because it's an art site and because Alchemy is mystical, I had fun with the design. I minimized the hard-to-read text on black background by inserting the cream-colored field in the center for the main content.
