"When I took office, only high energy physicists had ever heard of what is called the Worldwide Web.... Now even my cat has its own page."

Web Design

I’ve done web design since 2001 and it's been both challenging and fun. I specialize in projects for small and medium-size companies, individuals and non-profits.

I expect my clients to be good in their business, rather than in writing, photo-editing or understanding search engines. For this reason, I’m not a fan of do-it-yourself systems and my clients tend to appreciate the fact they can simply send me rough content and I smooth it out into an attractive and search-engine friendly presentation.

Web development requires a lot besides designing the template. In big companies, they have one person for each requirement and each project has a varied combination of requirements. I really enjoy the process of synthesis - starting with a vision and pulling it all together. In a typical small website, I do most of the following:

  • Information architecture - figuring out how to present the content in digestible bites and logical sequence
  • Copy writing - heavy editing or writing original texts and articles
  • Photo editing - retouching supplied photos, sometimes even my own project snapshots
  • Translations - I translate English-Czech and Czech-English and coordinate translations in other languages
  • Web design – design of page-layout, navigation, background etc.

People behind the Websites

For me, the web is all about the people behind it. I met many exceptional people within this business. For example, I happen to have two world-record holders among my clients and they couldn't be more different - Marie Brozova, a gentle woman, holds the record for drawing the largest drawing with colored pencils and Rudolf Bok, a stunt man by profession, holds the world record in jumping into water - and surviving. I meet people who are professionals in their field and love their work and it’s fascinating to learn what makes them tick.

Very often a project needs a website in order to get off the ground. I enjoy being there when companies and projects are forming and being there later, when they’ve developed into rocking enterprises. I like to see websites that started with 5 pages grow into information sources with hundreds of articles. If the concept is right from the beginning, the sky is the limit.
